MV+ News Desk | September 1, 2024

Aasandha, the universal health insurance scheme for Maldivians, has temporarily suspended patient referrals to two hospitals in Bangalore, India, due to changes in the hospitals’ internal policies.

The suspension affects Aster CM Eye Hospital and Cytecare Hospitals Pvt Ltd. According to Aminath Zeeniya, Managing Director of Aasandha Company Ltd, the decision was initiated by the hospitals, which opted to discontinue offering credit services under the Aasandha insurance scheme.

Speaking to Mihaaru News, Zeeniya stated, “The decision to stop referring patients to these hospitals was not made by Aasandha. We acted at the request of the hospitals, for the time being.”

This move follows the suspension of Aasandha services at Manipal Hospital in Bangalore, which occurred approximately a month ago due to rising healthcare costs. Zeeniya noted that Manipal Hospital is currently reviewing its pricing structure.
