Journalist Adam Haleem has been appointed as Chief of Staff at the official residence of the Parliamentary Speaker, Muraidhoo, effective 28th July 2024.
Hassan Ziyau, Communication Director of the Parliament, confirmed that Haleem’s appointment is made at the discretion of the Speaker, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Haleem, a native of Mundoo island in Laamu atoll, shares his hometown with Speaker Abdulla. He brings over 20 years of experience in journalism, having begun his career with ‘Aafathis’ news. His career also includes roles at ‘Haveeru’ and editorial positions at ‘Sun’, ‘VNews’, and ‘Avas’.
Haleem received both the General Service Award and the Golden Pen Award for his contributions to journalism. He has also launched his own news platform, ‘The Mirror’.
Speaker Abdulla relocated to Muraidhoo on 26th July, following renovations to the residence. This building was designated as the official residence of Parliamentary Speakers for security reasons after the assassination attempt on former President and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on 6th May 2021. Although Nasheed resided there post-attack, his successor, Mohamed Aslam, MP for North Hithadhoo, did not take up residence in the building.
