Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has held its annual Speech and Hearing Camp for children with disabilities in Faafu Atoll from 24 to 29 June 2024, with the support of Atmosphere Foundation.
During this camp, an international speech therapist provided free consultations, diagnosis, individual assessments and audiometric tests for over 90 children with speech and hearing impairments at F Atoll Nilandhoo, Feeali, Dharanboodhoo, Bilehdhoo and Magoodhoo.
The speech therapist also conducted a 2-day workshop in both Feeali and Magoodhoo for over 45 Special Education Needs teachers and foundation stage teachers from all five islands in F Atoll.
The sessions targeted for teachers working with students with special needs focused on ‘improving articulation and speech’, ‘minimising communication challenges’, as well as other useful intervention tips that can be practised in a classroom setup.
ARC wishes to express sincere appreciation to Atmosphere Foundation, Ministry of Education and respective schools for their assistance, support and partnership.
