Gov’t Transfers Food Establishment Registration Duties to MFDA
The government has transferred the issuance of Food Establishment Registrations from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) to the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).
Previously, HPA administered this service through the ‘oneGov’ multi-agency portal. However, under the newly enacted Food Safety Act, the responsibility for registration and authorisation of eateries has shifted to the MFDA.
As a result, services related to food establishment registration will not be available via HPA’s ‘oneGov’ profile until Thursday, as they transition to the MFDA.
For any inquiries, the MFDA can be reached at 3014361 during official hours and at 7603204 outside of these hours.
The Food Safety Act, ratified by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on May 23rd and enforced last Friday, grants the MFDA the authority to fine unregistered eateries, cafés, and restaurants between MVR 50,000 and MVR 100,000. The MFDA also has the power to conduct raids, inspections, and take other legal actions as necessary.
