President of the Adhaalath Party and Home Minister, Imran Abdullah, issued a stern warning to the opposition, stating that they would not be allowed to protest if they decided to take to the streets.

This announcement came in response to ongoing opposition protests in certain islands leading up to President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih’s presidential campaign tour.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Dhigurah, Imran highlighted the readiness of Maldives for political activities. He emphasised the importance of politicians informing the public about their plans and subsequently implementing them.

However, Imran, as the president of the ruling coalition’s Adhaalath Party, criticised the opposition for presenting a scenario that is ill-suited to the current situation in Maldives. He expressed doubts about the opposition’s ability to deliver on their promises to the people.

Imran warned that if the opposition continued their current course, they would face significant resistance from the President Solih’s team.

“If they do not change their approach, we will protest vigorously,” he asserted.

Nevertheless, Imran stressed that they would no longer engage in such tactics themselves. He described the opposition’s street activities as aimless and detrimental, urging the people to consider this deeply.

Imran stated, “whether it is members of the Democrats, PPM, or any other party, we do not take matters lightly when we visit the islands.”

“We will stand firmly against any mockery, and both the PPM and the Democrats will be unable to restrain our team,” Imran warned.

The Adhaalath Party, as part of the ruling coalition, has decided to form a coalition with the MDP for the presidential election on September 9. Leaders from both parties are accompanying the President on his campaign tours.
