Maldives Sports Awards Postponed Amid Cost-Cutting Measures

The Ministry of Sports has postponed the Maldives Sports Awards until the end of the year.

Originally scheduled to take place at the Hulhumalé Synthetic Track Stadium on Thursday night, the award ceremony was indefinitely postponed.

In a statement, the Ministry explained that the postponement is part of special cost-cutting measures implemented by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and was decided upon after consultations with stakeholders.

Despite the postponement, significant preparations had already been made, including the announcement of final nominations for each sport.

The Maldives Sports Awards have been an annual event since their inception in 2022, during former Minister Ahmed Mahloof’s tenure. The government has invested heavily in the ceremony over the past two years.
