Male’ City Council Joins Maldives Local Councils’ Association

The Male’ City Council has officially passed a resolution to join the Maldives Local Councils’ Association (MLCA), as confirmed by MLCA sources.

According to the Male’ City Council, members are required by law to contribute MVR 5000 towards their membership in the MLCA. Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim will serve as the council’s representative in the association.

In a recent announcement, the MLCA opened its doors to City, Atoll, and Island Councils across the Maldives interested in becoming members. Established with the aim of improving the effectiveness of local governance and empowering communities, the MLCA advocates for the rights of local councils.

Furthermore, the association seeks to promote collaboration among councils, providing a platform for addressing shared challenges and exploring opportunities for mutual development and cooperation.
