Male’ Records 40 Road Accidents in One Week, Police Data Shows

The Maldives Police Service has reported a total of 40 road accidents in the capital last week, with 20 percent occurring on the bridge and highway connecting Malé City with Hulhumalé and Hulhulé.
According to data shared by the police , the accidents were recorded between 5 and 11 October, including 10 separate incidents on 9 October alone.

The statistics indicate that 32 of the accidents occurred within Malé, while eight incidents, equivalent to 20 percent, took place on the Sinamalé Bridge and Hulhumalé Highway.
Motorcycles were involved in 30 of the 40 accidents. These included 11 motorcycle-on-car collisions, eight motorcycle-on-motorcycle collisions, three motorcycle-on-van collisions, two motorcycle-on-pickup collisions, two motorcycle-on-pedestrian collisions, two motorcycle-on-bus collisions, and two motorcycle-on-bicycle collisions.
Most accidents, 30 in total or 75 percent, occurred during the daytime, while the remaining 10 incidents took place at night.
The accidents resulted in injuries to four people, including one individual who sustained serious injuries, and caused damage to 37 vehicles.
Malé, the densely populated capital of the Maldives, continues to experience a high number of road accidents each year, some of which have been fatal.
