MPL and Uligan Council Sign Agreement to Enhance Maritime Services
Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Uligan Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance maritime services in Uligan.
MPL Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, signed the MoU on behalf of the company at a ceremony held at the Uligan Council this morning.
Under this agreement, MPL will develop a yacht marina in Uligan and establish the necessary facilities to provide services to yachts.
CEO Wajeeh announced that the practical work of establishing the yacht marina will commence this year. The project is expected to be completed within six months. The concept is currently being developed and discussed with investors.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has promised to expand the maritime sector in the Maldives. Uligan has been a destination for many yachts since ancient times. The island and its council have been concerned about the lack of services. MPL aims to establish a yacht marina in Uligan for the first time, in line with the President’s vision. The concept has been finalised and discussions with investors are ongoing.
Additionally, MPL is working on constructing offices for international banking services and maritime services. This initiative will create more job opportunities.
