MWSC Begins Installation of 10,000-Tonne Water Tank in Hulhumalé
The Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has begun the installation of a 10,000-tonne water storage tank in Hulhumalé as part of its ongoing efforts to boost water security.
The project, currently underway at MWSC’s operations centre in Hulhumalé, was inaugurated yesterday by Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muthhalib and MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed.
During the inauguration, Managing Director Matheen highlighted that the new tank would significantly enhance the company’s water storage capacity, increasing it by up to 80 percent and reinforcing water safety measures.
He further disclosed that plans are also in place to install a similar tank in Malé. In addition, the foundation work for a main transfer pump station, which will link the water networks of Malé and Hulhumalé, has been completed, with the project progressing rapidly.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Muthhalib underscored the importance of the new tank, noting that it would safeguard against potential disruptions in water production, which is dependent on electricity.
The project in Hulhumalé, valued at MVR 34 million, is scheduled for completion by February of next year.
