Nine Arrested in Drug Operation in Rasgetheemu
Nine individuals have been arrested from a residence in R. Rasgetheemu in connection with a drug-related case.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the suspects were apprehended while using drugs inside the house during an operation carried out on Saturday. The operation was launched based on intelligence received by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and was conducted jointly by the Rasgetheemu Police Post, Hulhudhuffaaru Police Post and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.

The police identified the suspects as seven men and two women from four different islands. The men include a 23-year-old, two 30-year-olds, a 33-year-old and a 38-year-old from R. Hulhudhuffaaru, as well as a 36-year-old and a 41-year-old from Rasgetheemu. The women were identified as a 32-year-old from Lh. Naifaru and a 21-year-old from HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.
During the operation, officers recovered 15 pieces of paper and two rubber packs containing substances suspected to be drugs. Following their arrest, four of the suspects were remanded in custody for 10 days, while the remaining five were remanded for 30 days. The case remains under investigation.
In a separate operation on the same day, police arrested two more suspects in L. Dhanbidhoo and L. Gan as part of ongoing counter-narcotics efforts.
A 60-year-old man from Gan was arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Gan Police and Counter Narcotics Intelligence, during which 5.36 grams of drugs and equipment believed to be used for drug peddling were seized from his residence. He was remanded in custody for 10 days.
Another suspect, a 55-year-old man from L. Mundoo, was arrested from the Dhanbidhoo harbour carrying 46.32 grams of drugs. He was remanded in custody for five days.
The Maldives Police Service has stated that all cases are under active investigation.
