Operations Relocated to New Terminal at Hanimaadhoo International Airport

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that operations at Hanimaadhoo International Airport will be relocated to the ground floor of the newly constructed terminal from Wednesday, 15 October.

The relocation is part of MACL’s efforts to align the airport’s infrastructure with the standards set by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, enabling Code C aircraft to operate using the full length of the newly developed runway. To comply with runway clearance requirements, the existing terminal and surrounding tall structures will be dismantled.

As part of the transition, the airport jetty opposite the current terminal will be decommissioned, and passengers will temporarily use the Hanimaadhoo port for access and transport services.

The relocation represents a major milestone in the Hanimaadhoo Airport expansion project, which is being developed under a USD 800 million credit line facilitated by the Exim Bank of India and signed by the previous administration in 2019. The project involves the construction of a new runway, terminal building, and upgraded airport facilities, with the goal of transforming Hanimaadhoo into a regional aviation hub.

During his visit to Hanimaadhoo on 25 August, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing and opening the airport by November 2025, noting its importance in strengthening northern connectivity, promoting tourism, and supporting economic growth.
