The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held a rally at the carnival area in Malé last night under the slogan “Koba Koba Magey Flat, Koba Koba Magey Gothi.”
Members of the party’s national council and former parliamentarians addressed the crowd, criticising the government’s approach to housing and accusing it of failing to deliver on key promises. Speakers said citizens were being neglected despite previous commitments made by the administration.
Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir compared the current government’s housing policies to those of the previous MDP administration, claiming that most major housing projects were completed before the end of MDP’s term. He said payments had been made to the companies responsible for the projects, but the current government had failed to continue them. Mauroof urged President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to resume the unfinished housing projects without delay.
Other speakers included Makunudhoo MP Mohamed Rai and former North Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef.
The rally follows a similar MDP gathering in Malé on 3 October, which ended in clashes with police. The party has announced plans to hold a larger rally on 17 November.
