Minister Visits Underwater Tunnel Project in Mumbai

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib visited the construction site of an underwater tunnel in Mumbai today, as part of an official trip to India. Accompanying Dr Muthalib were State Ministers Tho’aam Mohmed and Ismail Hameed, along with Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar.

The visit focused on the Adit Tunnel, the starting point of a 7.1-kilometre underwater tunnel for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project. This ambitious engineering feat is part of India’s broader infrastructure development efforts.

The Ministry of Infrastructure highlighted the significance of the visit, noting it as an opportunity to “exchange knowledge and explore innovative methodologies” that could be applied to enhance infrastructure projects within the Maldives.

The visit follows earlier remarks by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who announced plans for Rasmale’—a land reclamation project in Fushidhiggaru Falhu—which is set to be connected to Male’ City via an underwater tunnel, similar to the one being constructed in Mumbai.
