Maldives Zakat House has offered financial assistance to 14 individuals registered under their Poor and Needy Register, who are unable to afford paying down-payment for social housing received through government housing schemes.
According to a press release by the Zakat House, after discussions held by their council, they have offered to pay a total of MVR 340,000 to 14 individuals registered at the institution.
The money will be paid to the government entities responsible for dealing with payments of the housing scheme, rather than being deposited into the accounts of the individuals themselves, said Zakat House. They also said that, after a review of the individuals’ living standards, their Poverty status might be changed.
The press release stated that they are in the process of introducing a “Zakat Beneficiary Card,” with the aim of assisting individuals on their poverty register to achieve a good standard of living.
Under this initiative, individuals registered at the Zakat House will be provided with financial assistance to afford medicines which are not available under the Aasandha Scheme. Furthermore, they will be provided with the means to buy food during Ramadan time, as well as assistance to pursue education and afford housing.
