Those impacted are now facing difficult circumstances as a result of the incident. In a statement posted on X, NDMA confirmed that the fire has affected 37 Maldivians and 20 expatriates. “This authority is currently working to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to these individuals,” NDMA stated.
The Gaamagu Café building, situated on Sosun Magu, consists of three storeys, with the upper floors constructed on decks using corrugated metal sheets. While the ground floor housed the café, the upper levels served as accommodation for expatriate workers. The building has been severely damaged in the fire, rendering it unusable.

The fire, which originated in the café’s kitchen, has since been brought under control by the MNDF Fire and Rescue Services. Although there were no injuries reported, two individuals were taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. In addition to the Gaamagu Café building, a neighbouring residence was also affected by the fire.
