Maldives Receives USD 46.6 Million in Green Tax in Past Eight Months
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has reported that the country has received USD 46.6 million in Green Tax over the past eight months.
This figure represents a 3.7% increase compared to the Green Tax revenue collected during the same period last year.
The statistics indicate that USD 44.5 million was collected in Green Tax during the first eight months of 2023, with USD 44 million of this amount in cash. In comparison, this year USD 46.6 million has been collected, including USD 46 million in cash.
The data also reveals that USD 5.6 million was collected in August 2024, up from USD 4.47 million in August 2023.
The Green Tax is a levy on tourists visiting the Maldives, aimed at supporting environmentally sustainable initiatives. It is applied to resorts, guest houses, hotels, safaris, and directly to tourists.
Specifically, hotels and guest houses in residential areas with more than 50 rooms are charged USD 6 per day, while those with 50 rooms or fewer are required to pay USD 3 per day.
