Gov’t Seeks Increased Hajj Quotas for the Maldives

The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have engaged in discussions on increasing the number of Hajj pilgrimage quotas allocated to Maldivians. 

The discussions took place between Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).

During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed his gratitude to the Saudi government for its continued support in the development of the Maldives. He acknowledged the close ties between the two nations, highlighting key areas where further assistance is needed, including fiscal reform, education, healthcare, and economic development. The president also underscored the importance of matters related to the Hajj pilgrimage.

In response, the Saudi foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the Maldives across various sectors. He indicated a willingness to consider increasing the Hajj pilgrimage quotas for Maldivians and conveyed his best wishes for the ongoing UNGA79 sessions.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening diplomatic relations and collaborating on areas of mutual interest.
