The primary aim of the meeting was to formally initiate the committee and introduce its responsibilities to members. The committee includes representatives from various government institutions, as well as individuals from both the public and private sectors.

Ms. Eunsong Kim, Programme Specialist at UNESCO’s South Asia Regional Office, and international consultant Soenke Ziesche also attended the meeting. They provided a detailed briefing on the committee’s role and the tasks ahead.

The UNESCO standards are designed to safeguard human rights and ensure that the use of AI in sustainable development does not lead to social exclusion. The framework prioritises the fair, transparent, and responsible use of AI, with an emphasis on promoting social well-being.

UNESCO is supporting member countries through the AI Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM), which helps nations evaluate their capacity to develop and implement ethical AI frameworks.
