Police Recover MVR 2.2 Million in Scam-Related Investigations
The Maldives Police Service has recovered MVR 2.2 million stolen through various scams over the past eight months, according to the Chief Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan.
In a post on X today, Shifan highlighted the rise in scams across the country, with many victims defrauded of significant amounts of money. He expressed concern over the ongoing vulnerability of individuals to such fraudulent schemes.

In a press briefing, police revealed that over MVR 27 million had been stolen in scams during December and January alone, suggesting the overall figure has significantly increased.
Police statistics show that in 2023, MVR 20 million was stolen across 1,661 reported scam cases.
