The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced plans to introduce a new baggage handling system at Velana International Airport in preparation for the upcoming winter tourist season.

He emphasised that improving equipment and service standards will be a priority for the company in the months ahead.

Shareef noted that MACL’s employees and management will work collaboratively to align with the company’s broader goals, ensuring that operations run smoothly during the peak tourist period. The meeting, held to review the airport’s readiness, also focused on addressing potential challenges during the busy season.

The session was attended by Deputy Managing Director Mujuthaba Latheef and other senior officials. MACL stated that similar discussions with the company’s shareholders are planned for the future as part of ongoing efforts to ensure operational efficiency.

In addition to the new baggage system, work has begun on expanding the terminal area to alleviate overcrowding, a long-standing issue at the airport, as it prepares to accommodate the increased tourist influx during the peak season.
