Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim announced that Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), one of the world’s largest shipping lines, has begun operations in the Maldives, which will increase the country’s monthly container intake to 6,000.

Yesterday, MSC’s vessel, MSC Manasa F, docked at Male’ and was welcomed with a water salute by MPL. The ship’s arrival marks the beginning of MSC’s commitment to three monthly trips to the Maldives, with the Manasaf alone bringing in 896 containers.

Wajeeh outlined MPL’s ongoing efforts to further enhance services at the Male’ Commercial Harbour to support expanded trade as additional vessels arrive. MSC’s operations are expected to contribute significantly to trade facilitation in the Maldives.

MSC’s local agent, Centurion, has worked closely with MPL to establish MSC’s routes to the Maldives. Centurion’s Managing Director, Aiman Jaleel, expressed appreciation for MPL’s support in making the MSC services possible.

MSC vessels travelling to the Maldives will primarily operate from ports in India, Sri Lanka, and Singapore. Holding 20 percent of the global container fleet capacity, MSC remains a key player in international shipping.
