Previously, MIFCO reported that MVR had 9 million outstanding payments owed to fishermen, affecting 331 fishing vessels. In a post on X today, Muizzu stated that these dues have now been handed over to MIFCO for disbursement.
Muizzu also noted that his administration is working to establish a system to ensure fishermen receive their payments within 48 hours.
MIFCO had previously attributed its financial difficulties to the low fishing season, indicating that it could not provide an exact timeline for the disbursement of payments. However, it was in discussions with the government to resolve the issue.
