BCC Launches Nationwide Economic Profiling Initiative
The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has unveiled a new initiative, Dhivehi Raajjeyge Iqthisaadhee Furamala 2025, aimed at gathering comprehensive data on economic development projects across the nation, with a particular focus on analysing gender representation within contracted projects.
The initiative was officially launched by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed. The project involves deploying BCC teams to residential islands to collect the latest information and review statistics previously gathered by local administrations. Practical work for the initiative will begin in Haa Alif Atoll later this month, with a projected completion by mid-2025.
At the inauguration, Minister Saeed emphasised the importance of economic profiling in promoting development, urging the corporation to proceed carefully to ensure accurate and reliable data. Deputy Managing Director of BCC, Saamih Adam, also expressed optimism that the initiative’s impact would be felt even before its full completion. He highlighted that it would play a crucial role in identifying small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and enable tailored support services.
BCC stated that the initiative will be instrumental for policymakers, aiding in informed decision-making and fostering a conducive environment for both local and foreign investments. The corporation confirmed that all economy-related activities would be integrated into this project, which is anticipated to drive growth and inclusivity in the economic landscape.
