Representatives from relevant institutions attended the meeting, where proposed amendments to the Act were presented. These amendments cover various aspects, including the definition of domestic relationships, domestic violence practices, and the related criminal justice processes.

The meeting also focused on the roles of key institutions in the implementation of the proposed amendments. The Maldives Police Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, social and health services, and the Family Protection Authority were highlighted for their involvement in addressing domestic violence cases.

Additionally, proposed amendments to legal remedies and court procedures, such as protection orders, expedited protection orders, and separation orders, were discussed. The meeting sought to remove systematic barriers within the current domestic violence framework, aligning the system with the intent of the law. This includes expanding the regulatory powers of the Family Protection Authority to enhance its ability to address cases effectively.
