In the proposed budget for 2025, MVR 500 million has been set aside to harmonise pay scales for civil servants and employees in the judicial sector, which may lead to an increase in salary expenditures next year.

The proposed budget also allocates MVR 14 billion to cover salaries for approximately 50,000 government employees, including 30,000 civil service staff. The remaining 20,000 employees are spread across independent institutions and include political appointees.
