One of the agreements, the Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirement for Holders of Diplomatic, Service and Official Passports, enables Maldivians with valid diplomatic and official passports to enter, transit through, and stay in Azerbaijan visa-free for up to 90 days. The Maldivian Foreign Ministry described this as a significant step towards strengthening bilateral engagement, noting that both governments have agreed to explore extending visa exemptions to all Maldivians.
The second agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism, focuses on enhancing mutual tourism development. It acknowledges the importance of tourism in driving economic, cultural, and social growth in both countries.
During the meeting, Minister Khaleel highlighted the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Azerbaijan, expressing his commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation. He emphasised that these agreements would deepen ties by facilitating greater people-to-people connections, cultural exchanges, and tourism collaboration.
Minister Khaleel also reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to working closely with Azerbaijan in multilateral forums, underscoring the importance of shared efforts to address global challenges.
The agreements mark a milestone in the relationship between the two nations, paving the way for increased collaboration and mutual benefits across various sectors.
