Previously, the family room at Hulhumale’ Prison could only accommodate a single family meeting at a time. The newly renovated space is now fully air-conditioned and capable of hosting up to three family meetings simultaneously. The updated room also features a designated children’s area where inmates can engage with their children, reading books and playing.
A waiting room has also been added next to the family room for added convenience. The Maldives Correctional Service has stated that the expansion will double the number of family meetings held at the prison, increasing capacity by 100 percent.
The improvements to the family room are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of both inmates and their families.
