Gov’t Confident Road Development Projects Will Be Completed Within Current Term
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the ongoing road development projects in Malé and Vilimalé before the end of the current administration’s term.
Speaking to PSM News, the Minister of State for Construction and Infrastructure, Ibrahim Nazeem, stated that the project is progressing steadily. He expressed confidence that the roads would be completed as scheduled, noting that financing for the initiative had been secured from China during the administration’s first year in office.
A team of Chinese experts has already conducted site visits and completed preliminary surveys. According to Nazeem, the feasibility study for the project has also been finalised, with related documentation set to be submitted to the relevant ministry in the near future. He added that the project is expected to address longstanding flooding issues in the capital.
The USD 100 million project is being funded through a grant from China, with practical work anticipated to commence next year.
