STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, formally presented the equipment, which was received by the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy. The event also saw the participation of Vice Chief of Defence Force, Brigadier General Ahmed Giyas, alongside other high-ranking MNDF officers and senior STELCO officials.

The fire-extinguisher drone is equipped to reach elevated areas, such as high-rise buildings, with its water hose, capable of extending up to 200 metres. Meanwhile, the deep tracker, designed for underwater search and rescue operations, can descend 200 metres below sea level and features a robotic arm to retrieve items from the ocean floor.

This donation underscores STELCO’s commitment to enhancing national capabilities in emergency response and rescue missions.

The Maldives has increasingly adopted advanced technology to address security and environmental challenges. Earlier this year, the government began employing drones for maritime monitoring. These drones, purchased from Turkey at a cost of MVR 570 million, are capable of travelling at speeds of 70 to 120 knots, with an operational range of up to 27 hours and a maximum altitude of 25,000 feet.

The MNDF expressed gratitude for the new additions to their arsenal, noting the potential impact on firefighting and maritime operations.
