Two Private Sector Representatives Removed from MMA Board
The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has removed two private sector representatives from its board of directors, according to an announcement yesterday.
The individuals affected are Assad Ali, Deputy Secretary General of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), and Shahudhy Anwar, Chairman of the Maldives International Arbitration Centre. Their dismissal was confirmed by an MMA official who spoke to Sun, though no specific reasons were provided for their removal.
The official described the move as part of a “routine shuffle” within the central bank’s board, offering no further details. The MMA has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
The removal of private sector representatives from the board has raised questions about the changes’ implications for the institution’s governance.
