Water Supply Network Project Completed in Kumburudhoo
The water supply network project in Kumburudhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, has completed, addressing the long-standing issue of access to safe drinking water for the island’s residents.
The project, which began in December 2021, was overseen by the state-owned Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
For many years, residents of Kumburudhoo have faced challenges due to the absence of a proper drinking water network, resulting in considerable daily hardships. The completion of this initiative is expected to alleviate these difficulties and improve living conditions on the island.
Abdul Matheen Mohamed, Managing Director of MWSC, praised the collaborative nature of the project, noting its completion was the result of coordinated efforts. “The water supply network project was completed with the support and participation of numerous agencies,” he said in a recent social media post. “The project has been completed with the hard work of many to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to the residents of Kumburudhoo.”
The government-funded project, at an estimated cost of US$2.9 million, saw the installation of a 2.75-kilometre main pipe network. A new building was constructed to house a Reverse Osmosis (RO) facility, and an RO plant was installed as part of the infrastructure. Additionally, storage facilities and water metres were introduced to connect individual households to the network.
This project forms part of the administration of Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s broader vision to implement developmental projects across all islands, irrespective of their size or population.
