Maldives Records 1.9 Million Tourist Arrivals in 2024, Targets Two Million by Year-End
The Maldives has welcomed 1.9 million tourist arrivals so far this year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism. This marks an increase compared to previous years, with 1.6 million arrivals recorded in 2022 and 1.8 million in 2023.
As the peak tourist season continues, the country has already seen 82,484 arrivals since the beginning of December, surpassing figures for the same period in prior years.
China has emerged as the leading source of visitors in 2024, with 257,794 arrivals, representing 13.4 percent of the total. Russia follows with 212,685 arrivals, making up 11.1 percent, while the United Kingdom ranks third with 168,460 arrivals, or 8.8 percent of the total.
India, which was the Maldives’ top tourist market in 2023, currently ranks sixth with 121,490 arrivals, accounting for 6.3 percent.
The Maldivian government has set an ambitious target of reaching two million tourist arrivals by the end of 2024.
Recognised as the World’s Leading Tourist Destination for the fifth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards, the Maldives currently operates 65,234 beds. These include 44,663 beds across 182 resorts, 2,028 beds at 14 hotels, 15,491 beds at 920 guesthouses, and 3,052 beds on 155 safari vessels.
