Japan Donates Essential Equipment to MNDF

Japan donated critical equipment to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coastguard with an official handover ceremony yesterday.

Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Takechi Midori, presented the equipment on behalf of the Japanese government. Defence Minister Mohamed Gassan Maumoon accepted the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.

The equipment is expected to significantly enhance the coastguard’s ability to respond to maritime emergencies, safeguarding lives and property at sea. This contribution reflects a shared commitment by both countries to bolster regional maritime security and promote safer waterways.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Takechi reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to supporting the Maldives in developing its maritime capabilities. She highlighted the importance of joint efforts in addressing regional security challenges, stressing Japan’s role as a reliable partner in these initiatives.

Defence Minister Gassan expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support, underscoring the practical benefits of the donation. He noted that the equipment would enhance the coastguard’s operational readiness, particularly in search and rescue missions, ensuring the safety of vessels in Maldivian waters.
