The individual has been identified as Amrit Singh, 25 years old. Immigration authorities have confirmed that arrangements are already underway to deport him from the country.

The Maldives Police Service received reports of a violent altercation at Artificial Beach on 6 December at approximately 18:22 hrs. Video footage from the scene shows a group of expatriates engaging in physical assault during the incident.

Shamman Waheed, the Controller General of Immigration, has assured that strict action will be taken against all those involved in the riot. Authorities have previously confirmed the apprehension of additional individuals connected to the incident.

In related developments, Ali Ihusan, Minister of Homeland Security, reiterated in April this year that expatriates found in breach of the Maldives’ laws, particularly those committing criminal offences, would face deportation within 48 hours.

Furthermore, a special task force has now been established, incorporating local authorities, to address issues associated with immigrants. This includes monitoring criminal behaviour, assault, and other forms of violence.
