Gov’t Condemns Israel’s Settlement Expansion in Syria’s Golan
The government has released a press statement condemning Israel’s decision to approve the expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan.
The statement described the move as a clear violation of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, further jeopardising efforts to achieve peace in the region.

Reaffirming its stance, the government called on the international community to take immediate action and cease illegal settlement activities. The statement also highlighted that the Syrian Golan has been under occupation since 1967 and urged Israel to comply with United Nations resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 497 (1981).
“The Maldives reiterates its firm and principled position in support of Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The Government of Maldives supports all regional and international efforts aimed at restoring peace, security, and stability in Syria while ensuring the aspirations of its people are realised.”
