The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has appealed to the public to provide any information related to the devastating fire that destroyed a key government building as the investigation continues.

The blaze, which erupted in the early hours of last Thursday morning, caused significant damage to the building housing the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. Nearby, the Green Building—home to the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy—also sustained damage.

Police have urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Major Crimes Department on 9911099.

A comprehensive investigation is underway, with assistance from fire and rescue services, to determine the cause of the fire. Police Commissioner Ali Shujau confirmed to the media on Saturday that a foreign agency would likely be involved in the investigation.

Commissioner Shujau added that steps are being taken by the government to arrange for this international team to join the investigation. He expressed confidence that collaboration with this agency would lead to a conclusive determination of the fire’s origin.

Forensic teams have already begun their work at the scene, collecting key samples and reviewing CCTV footage in the surrounding area. Police are also in the process of interviewing eyewitnesses and others with direct knowledge of the incident to build a clearer picture of events.

The investigation remains active as efforts continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fire.
