Motorcyclist with Confiscated Licence Critically Injured in Collision with Police Vehicle
The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that an 18-year-old motorcyclist critically injured in a collision with a police vehicle in Hulhumalé early yesterday morning had his driving licence confiscated for previous traffic violations.
The motorcyclist, a Maldivian national, sustained severe injuries and is currently on a ventilator at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, police revealed that his driving licence had been seized on Saturday due to violations of the Road Traffic Act. However, specific details regarding the violations were not disclosed.
Authorities have stated that the investigation will include an assessment of whether negligence by the police officer driving the vehicle contributed to the incident.
The collision, which occurred in Hulhumalé Phase 2, remains under investigation. Further updates are expected as inquiries progress.
