Police said they discovered five phones, believed to have been stolen from the shop, during a search of Azmeel following his arrest.

Azmeel had been sentenced to five months and 22 days of house arrest by the Criminal Court on November 5th after being convicted of theft from ‘Craves Takeaway’. Authorities noted that this was not his first offence, as he had been arrested 59 times previously for crimes including theft, robbery, and drug-related offences.

Following his arrest in connection with the burglary at ‘Spy & Tech’, Azmeel was remanded in custody for 15 days by the Criminal Court.

The prevalence of theft and robbery remains a concern in the Maldives, with the Criminal Court recently remanding an individual suspected of stealing two laptops and two iPhones for 15 days.
