Travel Ban Imposed on Former RDC Officials Amid Corruption Probe
The court has imposed a travel ban on former Road Development Corporation (RDC) Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik, also known as Mookey, and Chief Financial Officer Yasir Hassan.
The order was issued yesterday in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Maldives Police Service.
The travel restrictions were formally communicated to the two individuals, and the police have carried out searches at their private residences. During these inspections, various electronic devices were seized to aid the investigation into allegations of serious corruption.
Moosa, who was appointed during the former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)-led administration, headed the RDC during a period marked by allegations of widespread corruption and severe financial difficulties. According to the current RDC management, the corporation inherited a staggering debt of MVR 837 million when the new government assumed office. The management further disclosed that MVR 161 million was disbursed to multiple entities without proper documentation or transaction slips during the previous administration.
Additionally, RDC reported that its office safe had gone missing, and several robberies had occurred during the tenure of the former leadership.
As part of the broader investigation, police raided the RDC office on 15 November last year, confiscating several documents. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to conclude the probe.
