Travel Ban Lifted for Nine Individuals in Binveriya Land Allocation Case
The travel ban has been lifted, and passports have been returned to nine individuals previously implicated in the ongoing investigation into the alleged irregular allocation of land under the Binveriya housing scheme.
A spokesperson for the Police stated today that the decision was made following consultations with the Prosecutor General, who advised lifting the restrictions for these individuals.
In connection with the case, passports belonging to 20 individuals had initially been seized. Among those are the former Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, and his brother Fazeel Rasheed. The latter is accused of unlawfully acquiring a plot of land. The Police clarified that neither Fazul Rasheed nor Fazeel Rasheed is among the nine individuals whose passports have now been returned.
The investigation alleges that 50 plots of land under the Binveriya scheme were sold unlawfully. Following these revelations, 15 HDC employees were dismissed. However, after the appointment of a new Managing Director, the employees were reinstated and placed on suspension pending further review.
