President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the list of recipients for the 4,000 flats being built in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme will be published before Ramadan.

The announcement was made as he concluded his official visit to GA. and GDH. atolls. Dr. Muizzu highlighted that fulfilling his campaign promise to allocate flats and land to rightful beneficiaries has been a key focus over the past year. He reaffirmed that no previously allocated land or flats would be taken from citizens, while stressing his commitment to ensure the flats are distributed to eligible individuals.

The President indicated that measures have been taken to exclude those who sought to obtain flats through fraudulent means. This includes disqualifying applicants who altered documents or submitted false information. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is currently investigating allegations of irregularities in flat allocations. Those found to have engaged in deception will not be included in the final list.

The flat list has faced multiple delays, with the government previously postponing its release. The most recent delay, announced on 16 November, was attributed to ongoing efforts to address concerns raised by the ACC regarding alleged corruption in the permanent list of flat recipients. The Ministry of Housing stated that a thorough review of the applications is being conducted under the supervision of committees established by the President. Verification of details across the 20,697 submitted applications has required additional time.

The ACC’s investigation into complaints about the scheme revealed that 60 percent of the 4,000 individuals listed as recipients had obtained their flats through dishonest means. This finding prompted a comprehensive review to ensure the scheme benefits legitimate applicants.

The Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme was introduced to provide housing for eligible citizens, with the previous government reporting that 18,167 out of 20,697 applicants met the eligibility criteria. The current administration has reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness in the allocation process while addressing public concerns regarding irregularities.
