Police Inspect Over 70,000 Vehicles in Road Safety Drive

The Maldives Police Service has reported that a total of 73,953 vehicles were inspected last year as part of its efforts to enhance road safety. 

During this period, 66,347 individuals were cautioned, and 7,606 vehicles were penalised for various violations.

Among the violations, 2,138 instances of driving without a valid licence were recorded. This included 2,005 cases involving two-wheeled vehicles and 133 cases with four-wheeled vehicles. Additionally, 293 cases of dangerous driving were noted, with 271 involving two-wheeled vehicles and 22 involving four-wheeled vehicles.

In its tow operations, the police removed 15,514 vehicles from the roads. Of these, 11,656 were motorbikes, 2,567 were cars, 478 were pickups, 369 were vans, and 87 were trucks. Of the towed vehicles, 546 were destroyed, while 13,562 were returned to their owners.

The Police highlighted the serious concern over dangerous road accidents, noting that significant efforts were made to prevent such incidents and promote road safety throughout the year. Special emphasis was placed on reducing fatal accidents by utilising a wide range of resources.
