Met Office Warns of Torrential Rain and Rough Seas for Southern Maldives

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued yellow alerts from Thaa Atoll to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, warning of torrential rain.

These alerts are in effect from 0930 hours to 1330 hours today.

The forecast warns of torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of wind reaching 40mph for the region. Met Office also warned that rough seas are to be expected.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised by the MMS to remain vigilant and implement appropriate safety measures.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

• White alert: Alert Level 1
• Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
• Orange warning: Alert Level 3
• Red warning: Alert Level 4
