The government has decided to relocate the residents of HDh. Hirimaradhoo to HDh. Hanimaadhoo instead of their original request to migrate to K. Thulusdhoo.
During a meeting with Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar on 9 September 2024, members of the Hirimaradhoo Council expressed that the island’s residents wished to move to Thulusdhoo, an island near the capital, Male’ City.
Heena Waleed, the Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, today announced via X that the relocation would take place to Hanimaadhoo. However, she did not provide further details on the decision.

In September, Mohamed Waheed, the President of the Hirimaradhoo Council, explained that the residents had selected Thulusdhoo because of its proximity to Male’ City and the availability of land. Waheed stated that the council had communicated this request to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who had assured them the migration would be approved.
Hirimaradhoo has a registered population of over 500, although more than half of its residents currently live on other islands, mostly in the capital.
