Fund boxes are commonly placed in mosques to raise money for various causes, and the number of organisations seeking permission to install them has been increasing. Under the new guideline, organisations will be required to provide details on how the collected funds will be utilised before being granted permission to place a fund box in a mosque.

To ensure accountability, organisations will also need to submit a report detailing how the funds were spent, along with an audit report, before their permit can be renewed. The guideline will be established under the Protection of the Religious Unity Among Maldivians Act.

The minister emphasised the importance of transparency in the use of funds collected from mosque fund boxes, stating that proper oversight is necessary to maintain public trust in charitable donations.
