The Progressive National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group convened the meeting yesterday, marking the first time Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah was absent from such a gathering.
Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau shared on X that he had conducted a preparatory meeting for the Prosecutor’s Group ahead of President Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential address. However, Abdul Raheem was notably absent from the proceedings.

In his absence, Vice President Ahmed Nazim chaired the session. Despite not attending today’s gathering, the Parliamentary Office confirmed that Abdul Raheem would preside over tomorrow’s parliamentary session.
His absence comes amid reports of a strained relationship between him and President Muizzu. Tensions between the two reportedly escalated following the dismissal of Abdul Raheem’s son, Ibrahim Faisal, from his position as Tourism Minister last week.
Sources close to the matter indicate that Abdul Raheem was dissatisfied with the decision. Speaking to Dhauru, he suggested that had his relationship with the President remained intact, Muizzu would not have made such a move.
