Registration Opens for Burunu Boma Fishing Tournament

The Visit Maldives Club (VMC) has opened registration for ‘Burunu Boma,’ the largest sports fishing tournament in the Maldives, which is set to take place in May 2025.

The VMC is an initiative led by the staff of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives. It aims to strengthen the Maldives’ tourism industry by organising engaging events that foster a unified tourism community and enhance the country’s position as a leading global destination.

The ‘Burunu Boma’ tournament was officially launched on 20 December 2024 by the Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Shiyam. The competition invites anglers from the Maldives and around the world to compete for a grand prize of USD 10,000 in the scenic waters of the Maldives. Organisers have promised participants an unforgettable experience, featuring world-class fishing and intense competition.

The VMC has designed the tournament to attract both international fishing enthusiasts and participants from the Maldives’ sport fishing and tourism sectors. The event will follow a ‘catch and release’ approach, ensuring the protection of marine life while promoting a sustainable and competitive fishing experience.
