According to the council, these vessels are in violation of the Male’ and Vilimale’ Lagoon Management Regulations, as they have been left unattended without a responsible caretaker. The decision follows complaints from fishermen who use the lagoon with proper authorisation, citing the vessels as an obstruction.
The council has identified the following vessels for removal:
Munyia
Umeedhu
Two unnamed vessels without a registration number
Owners or those responsible for the vessels have been instructed to report to the council before Monday to arrange their removal. They are required to present a copy of the vessel’s registration, the owner’s identification card, and the identification of the person overseeing the vessel.
Failure to comply within the specified timeframe will result in the vessels being deemed abandoned and transferred to Vilimale’ harbour for storage in accordance with regulations. The council has also stated that it will not be liable for any damages incurred during removal and transportation.
