Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu said yesterday evening that the government is working on an information management system that will allow for parents to check their children’s educational progress in real-time.
Speaking at PSM’s “Riyaasee Bayaan 2025 Forum,” which was held to discuss President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential address at the first session of the first term of parliament this year, Minister Shafeeu said a budget of approximately MVR 45 million has been allocated for this project.
He said once this system is set up, parents can check in on their student’s academic progress, attendance, grades, tests and assignment details via an online platform.
“When this project ends, parents will be able to access information regarding their child in real time. The student’s attendance, things happening in the educational environment, the academic tests done in school, like so all information regarding their children will be available.” Dr. Shafeeu said.
He also talked about the importance of developing teachers and improving upon existing infrastructure so that parents can check on their student’s teacher’s information.
Minister Shafeeu also addressed the president’s commitment to improve primary students’ academic performance, in addition to his plan to ensure students have a comfortable learning environment.
“Almost half of the students failed to achieve the [minimum] requirement stated in the national curriculum,” Minister said regarding pass rates of students in Mathematics in the year 2023. Comparatively, this number was at 58 percent in 2015, he said.
He said by September of this year, the government’s plan to fit air conditioners in more than 3,700 classrooms in the Maldives will be achieved and per President Muizzu’s vision, they will ensure these classrooms are powered by solar energy.
In addition to Dr Shafeeu, Minister of Homeland Security said Technology Ali Ihusan, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Tourism and Education Thoriq Ibrahim were present in last night’s forum.
